Vroom Vroom: Supercar Racing

I did it! I did one of those supercar racing experiences this week while I was out of town attending DEF CON 32. I had a good time even though I realized that racing is not for me, and I feel like writing a post on my website to document how this experience impacted me personally.

Firstly, I have gained so much respect for the passenger car because I realize now that there is definitely a limit to how much power I can find enjoyable in a sports car. I did not feel like I was in control, and I would describe the handling experience as “uncomfortable.” I could have pushed the car harder, but there’s something in me that is uncomfortable with the propspect of pushing the boundaries of a vehicle. It feels dangerous, and danger isn’t fun for me.

Perhaps my inflexbility precludes racing when I need to drive smoothly and predictably for commuting. Smooth and steady is safe, comforting, and I realize now that I value smooth confidence over taking corners hard. It just makes me feel unsafe. The Toyota Camry Hybrid I rode in on from the airport? Heavenly, and the low-end electric torque satisfies any craving for sportiness in me. I could enjoy driving that car.

Color me so anxious that a Lambo didn’t do it for me.
